This programme applies the principles of chemical engineering and food chemistry to the large-scale processing of foods. Food must be nutritious, ie., provide the essential nutrients for growth and health; they must be safe, free from dangerous ,micro-organisms and chemical contaminants; and, if they are to be consumed at all, thet must be attractive in taste and appearance. In this programme you learn how to adapt the unit operations of traditional chemical engineering to the specific requirements of food processing. The main objective of this programme is to make it possible for well-trained chemical engineers to work in the food industry, possible one of the largest manufacturing industry in Malaysia; graduates that are market ready upon graduation.

The programme includes exposure to ares of food chemistry, food microbiology, food engineering, food safety, food processing and the nutritive value of food. It is also is designed to provide depth and breadth in the relevant pysical and biological sciences on which food science and technology is based.

PLO Description
PLO1    Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science and engineering technology fundamentals and specialization principles to well-defined applied engineering technology procedures, processes, systems or methodologies in chemical engineering technology
PLO2 Plan and conduct experimental investigations of broadly defined problems using data from relevant sources.
PLO3 Select and apply appropriate techniques, resources and modern engineering tools, including prediction and modeling, to broadly defined engineering activities, with an understanding of the limitations.
PLO4 Identify, formulate, research literature and solve broadly defined chemical engineering technology problems reaching substantiated conclusions using analytical tools appropriate to area of specialization.
PLO5 Design solutions for broadly defined problems and contribute to the design of systems, components or processes related to chemical engineering technology for sustainable development.
PLO6 Communicate effectively with the engineering technology community and society.
PLO7 Demonstrate understanding of the societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities and norms of chemical engineering technology practice.

In public sectors they may work at food related government bodies like Department of Health, Educational institutions, MARDI, SIRIM, MPOB, and others. They may join various industries like cereal manufacturing, bakery products, sugar refinery, manufacturing of flour-based sweetening agent, chocolate and confectionary products, fruits and vegetable products canning industry, edible oils and its products and beverages. The scopes of career may vary from productions supervisors, quality assurance supervisors, technicians, assistant chemist, R&D asistants, operators and others.

Malaysian University Examination Test (MUET) : Band 2


A Pass Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) or its equivalent, with minimum Grade C (CGPA 2.0) in 3 subjects including Mathematics and one science subject and A Pass in (SPM)or its equivalents and a pass in English


A Pass in Diploma with a minimum CGPA of 2.0 in relevant fields from UniKL or from other recognized higher learning institutions by Malaysian Government


Pass in UniKL Foundation in Science and Technology or its equivalents from UniKL or other recognized higher learning institutions by Malaysian Government with a minimum CGPA of 2.0; OR Pass in Matriculation in relevant field with a minimum CGPA of 2.0
